Pensions

Pension data is collected from Department of Work and Pensions records for each state pension claimant. These are given by geography and gender.

Line graph shows the trends over time. Use the geography filters to compare different areas and the slider to change the date range. Gender filters can be set and outputs either as volume receiving national pensions or the average pension amount. Right click the graph to show underlying data. Click to slide 2 for a map of Devon.

About the data

As the Devon population ages the number of pensioners rise. This has important consequences for the economy as a smaller working population has to support state pensions through tax. In 2018 there were approaching 200,000 pensioner claimants in Devon, around a quarter of the population. This number of pensioners appears to have peaked, falling slightly from a high in August 2017.
