The number of enterprise births per 1,000 of the working age population provides an indication of the dynamism of the economy in terms of business creation. The industrial composition of an area impacts upon the number of newly born enterprises. In rural areas with more small businesses numbers of enterprise births tend to be higher than in areas with larger employers, which are often urban.
