Job Seekers Allowance Analysis - September 2011

The number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) this month has risen from 9,104 in July to
9,409 in August, representing an increase of 3.4% month on month. The percentage of the total working age population who are in receipt of this out of work benefit has increased from 2.0% in July to 2.1% in August. This follows the trend seen nationally (UK), where there has been a 2.3% increase for the same period. Nonetheless the rate of JSA claimants in Devon continues to remain below that in our neighbouring areas and significantly below the national average, as it has done over the past twelve months.
