Job Seekers Allowance Analysis - August 2011

The number of people claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) this month has risen from 8,855 in June to
9,104 in July, representing an increase of 2.8% month on month. The percentage of the total working age
population who are in receipt of this out of work benefit has increased from 1.9% in June to 2.0% in July. This follows the trend seen nationally (UK), where there has been a 3.3% increase for the same period. The rate of JSA claimants in Devon continues to remain below that in our neighbouring areas and below the national average, as it has done over the past twelve months.
